About this Blog

Each of the pages posted on the Science Fun For The Holidays Blog is structured in four sections as follows:
  • The main idea of the Jewish holiday that parents can take home and connect to science;
  • Detailed science experiments;
  • Historical background of the holiday;
  • Resources for parents to use to pursue historical, philosophical, ethical, ritualistic and spiritual features of the holiday

Remember that science teaches us how to ask open ended questions and permits us to attempt to solve problems.  As we learn from the Passover Haggadah, asking questions is a very Jewish activity. Scientific experiments typically include the following steps:
  1. See a problem.
  2. Ask a question.
  3. Make a hypothesis.
  4. Test your hypothesis.
  5. Observe your test results.
  6. Draw conclusions based upon your observations.
There are so many ways to inspire love and enthusiasm for Judaism. Our tradition provides a calendar of holidays for us to connect to our past, to our future, to our community, and to our families.  Let science be another dimension to your child's connection to our rich tradition.

We hope that these scientific activities will add more joy and meaning to your holidays!
